3 tips for a powerful video

Creating a video presentation is an amazing way to show you and make a name of yourself. As long as it’s powerful. There is nothing more counterproductive than a boring video, on a dull background, and without any animation. No longer look for ways to make your video a success: we give you 3 director’s tips for creating a powerful video presentation.

1. Get ready

You don’t decide to create a video presentation like you choose to watch a movie. I am clear on this point: «a good video is above all a video that exists for a good reason».

So before you even think about what you’re going to put in your film, set your goals straight. What do you want to do? Present your company, sell your products, generate sharing on your socal network… Because the content, like the tone, will depend directly on your goals.

Then you can decide on the text, the images, everything that will appear on the screen. A small storyboard will not only save you time, it will allow you to get rid of the superfluous and make sure that every plan exists for a specific reason.

2. Take care of your introduction

A video, especially on the internet, should not be too long. A length of 2 to 3 minutes should be enough to bring the essence of your message. And even those two minutes can be too long if you can’t catch the attention of Internet users in the first few seconds.

My advice is to forget about fade-to-black and titles before images. It is better to start talking right away, even if it means specifying within 5 seconds your identity, with a few words in a strip or between two visuals. Otherwise, your audience will not continue watching and will move on to another video that will be more impactful.

You need to impact from the beginning of your video. And that’s one of the reasons why you also need to carefully select “the” photo that will appear as a thumbnail before pressing the “View” button.

3. Don’t forget the sound (and subtitles)

A clear sound, without unexpected sizzles, is crucial for a video to be heard to the end. But you also have to think about all those who will watch your presentation without the sound, whether it’s because they are surrounded (at work, on public transport, with the family…) or just because they want to be more discreet.

The subtitles will help you convey your message regardless of the viewing conditions. If you are sure of yourself and are ready to play the humorous card, you can also hijack these subtitles so that they contradict the images and the words shown in the film. This kind of campaign, if relevant, can quickly become viral. But it will only work if your target has humor!

A powerful video presentation does not always have to be serious. But it has to be quality, because it’s your brand that is at stake. Also think about the background on which you will shoot. I emphasize this point: it is better to stand in front of a white wall than near a wall filled with posters or memos that will unnecessarily distract attention.
